Nick Arrietta Has anybody tried the Ernie Ball Titanium or Cobalt strings? Just had my Fender Strat setup today by my friend and master tech and saw these strings on the shelf so i picked a pack up. Il throw them on in a few days when i kill the strings i just put on. If anybody needs a guitar set up and is in the Montrose CA area Grayson's Tunetown has one of the best techs ever. Robert Mathews I really don't worry so much about me or tend to pitch tantrums if I happen to ding my own stuff. Those things happen! It's the thoughtlessness of others that concerns and annoys me. I've gotten too old to beat on people who touch my stuff (Although earlier in my life . . ) and it's somewhat uncomfortable wearing a shoulder holster while I play!

Jim Marlow Man, I am so &*&^^$$%& depressed right now. I've got my guitars out, and all I can do is sit and look at them. My doc took more xrays of my shoulder last week and it's not just my rotator cuff, I am bone on bone, which means a whole shoulder replacement. I don't know what happened the other day, but when I got home from Lubbock seeing the doc, I layed down and took a nap and when I awoke, it was just like it was when I first injured iit. I can't move it at all again all the way down to my fingers. And I was just in the process f getting back into a band again. Talk about some shitty luck........

I’ve soldered stuff before, but it’s been a long time, I’m going to need to learn again. I just got a box full ‘o neat stuff that I’m going to slap on to that New York Pro that I picked up at Hoke·E·Geez. I have this urge to do as much of it as I can myself. (I’ll still have it set up when I’m done by Aaron at Lawrence Music.)

GFS | Lil Killer Black Humbucker Rail Pickup for Strats

I went with a goofy pickup configuration, because I have the luxury of not knowing what I’m doing & no one to tell me “that’s not the way you do that”.

GFS | Pro-Tube Lipstick Tube Pickup - GLOSS BLACK

I got 2 Lil Killer humbucker rail pickups, one 15K for the neck, & one 10K for the middle. I have no idea what the K means. I got a Pro-Tube lipstick tube pickup for the neck position, because I thought it looked neat… and because I never use the neck position, so I thought this might be neat to try out. I opted for the 6K version, because that’s what the pickup in the calibrated rail set comes as… even though the GFS page suggestsyou use the 4.9K one at the neck position. Will it make that big of a difference?

It's gonna look (& sound) a little different by the time I'm done with it.

So, I have these pickups, & the 5-way switch that came with the guitar. What kind of wiring do you suggest I do? Do I need to worry about shielding tape or paint? Do I need flux, or no flux? Can anyone show me a diagram for a normal setup? What about something “hot-rodded” using these components?

I have a soldering iron and some solder. I might get one of those soldering stands with the alligator clips.

Any tips, tricks, or advice?

The frets were a bit rusty (taped 'em up and used a bit of steel wool on them) and one of the fine-tuners was missing ($1 to replace at a local music store). Kept the guitar for about 7 years then sold it for $350.00 - which I then used to buy my Roland JC120 amp..

I love the chase! Ha ha. Tracking down cool parts, new pickups, etc. is great. Even at $350, that guitar was a good deal! The excitement when you get something for half of what it was worth is awesome. Ha ha.

I thik my 90's MIJ Strat was in the $300 range. I've probably devalued it over the years...

Yeah man, can't wait to plug it in... it's got a buzz at the 2nd fret on the high E right now, but don't want to get it set up until I can scrounge all the other parts for it. I'm guessing the stock pickups are crap. I'm a humbucker fan anyway. I have some GFS pickups in my other guitars, and they scream like demons from the depths of hell (which is a good thing for me).
